1.Scope

ThisStandardspecifiesamethodforacceleratedwearandcorrosion,tobeusedpriorto

thedetectionofnickelreleasefromnon-nickel-coateditemsthatcomeintodirectand

prolongedcontactwiththeskin.

Thefollowingdocumentsarenecessarywhenthistextisapplied.Fordatedreference,

onlythedatededitionappliestothisstandard.Forundatedreferences,thelatesteditionof

thenormativedocument(includingalltheamendments)isapplicabletothisstandard.

3.MethodandPrinciple

Theitemstobetestedareexposedtoacorrosiveatmospherebeforebeingplacedintoa

tumblingbarreltogetherwithawearmediumofabrasivepasteandgranules.Thebarrelis

rotatedsoastosubjectthetestpiecestowearfromthewearmedium.Theitemsarethen

testedfornickelreleaseinaccordancewithGB/T19719.

4Reagentsandmaterials

Exceptwhereindicated,allreagentsandmaterialsthatcancomeintocontactwith

samplesorreagentsshallbedemonstrablyfreeofnickel,andallreagentsshallbeof

recognizedanalyticalgradeorbetter.

4.1Corrosion

4.1.1Container

Containerwithalidandadeviceforsuspendingthetestpieces,allpartsmadeofinert

material(e.g.glassorplastic).

4.1.2Corrosivemedium

Dissolve50gDL-lacticacid,>85%purity,and100gsodiumchloridein1000ml

de-ionizedwater.

4.1.3Degreasingsolution

Anappropriatelydiluted,neutral,commerciallyavailabledetergentshallbeused,for

example,a0,5%aqueoussolutionofsodiumdodecylbenzenesulfonate.

4.1.4De-ionizedwater

De-ionizedwater,specificconductivitymaximum1μS/cm.

4.1.5Laboratoryoven

Laboratoryoven,capableofmaintainingatemperatureof(50±2)°C.

4.2Wear

4.2.1Tumblingbarrelandretainingassembly

Thetumblingbarrelandretainingassemblyshallbeinaccordancewiththefollowing

description:

-barrelofhexagonalcross-sectionandinternaldiameterof19cmperpendiculardistance

betweenoppositesidesdesignedtorotatearounditsaxiswhichisorientatedhorizontally

(seeFigure1);

-retainingassembly,suitableforattachingthetestitemssothattheydonotcomeinto

contactwitheachotherduringtumbling;

-retainingassembly,withitemsattached,shallbeinsertedintothebarrelfortumbling.

4.2.2Weartestapparatus

Adevicecapableofimpartingtothebarrel(4.2.1)aconstant(30±2)rotationsperminute.

Thedeviceshallbecapableofallowingthedirectionofrotationtobereversed.

4.2.3Abrasivepaste

Abrasivepasteproducedfordry-tumblingbarrels.Theabrasivepasteshallcomprise:

-6%to8%Esterwaxofmontanicacids-WaxE[CASNo.73138-45-1];

-3%Octadecanoicacid(stearicacid)[CASNo.57-11-4];

-30%to35%Petroleumdistillates,hydrotreatedlightparaffinic[CASNo.

64742-55-8];

-2%Polyeth
